- Peru: InRetail plans to open 300 new Mass stores until 2022
Discount Retail Chain and multiformat player InRetail (owned by Intercorp Peru) maintains positive figures, leveraging its growth mainly in its Mass discount stores and in Plaza Vea supermarkets. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Plaza Vea contributed 83% of sales, Vivanda 4%, Mass discount stores 8% and Economax 5%. The Peruvian retailer has been giving more priority to its Mass discount store chain, opening net 120 stores in 2019 (totaling 405 stores). Discount Retail Chain Lidl wins the German independent test magazin 'Stiftung Warentest: good for care shampoo assessment'. Testing four hair soaps, six solid shampoos and eight conventional products. Lidl's private label shampoo brand 'Cien Fruit / Vitamin' (one euro cent per application) shines first, followed closely by 'Nivea Classic Mild Care Shampoo for Normal Hair' (six eurocents per application). - USA: Aldi Curbside Rolls Out to 35 States
Discount Retail Chain Aldi US expands its Curbside Grocery Pickup service to more states after having piloted it in select stores since 2017. By the end of July, the e-commerce option will be available at 600 stores in 35 states, a welcome announcement for those spending less time in stores during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The full selection of Aldi products are available for pickup — powered by Instacart — by shopping at web and/or app. Customers can select their pickup time and location at checkout. Discount Retail Chain owner Schwarz Group - owning Lidl, Kaufland as well as Schwarz Production and recycling firm GreenCycle/PreZero - has signed the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) agreement. US Discount Retail Chain Dollar General's same-store sales surged by 21.7% during the quarter and net sales were up 27.6%, far outpacing both its rival dollar store chains and grocery and big-box leaders such as Walmart and Target. While the chain benefited from an industry-wide trend for shoppers flocking to stores to stockpile on items during March and early April, analysts say it was able to be able to grow at a faster pace than its rivals because of the location of the majority of its stores. The stores which are mostly situated in rural or suburban areas are underserved by other operators. The majority of Dollar General's 16,500 stores are located in small towns or close to neighborhoods.
