Germany: Aldi is bundling international non-food special buys procurement

Discount Retail Chain Aldi Süd is emerging as to how the discounter wants to go into the future in purchasing. The pressure in the non-food market, by the success of non-food discounters such as Action, is forcing the Mülheim-based company to look for synergies even faster. Therefore, the discounter will bundle its volumes even more strongly than before in the future.

By the end of the year, responsibility for important product groups such as textiles, shoes, toys, garden or camping will move from the national companies in Austria, Hungary, Italy and Slovenia to the international purchasing department in Mülheim. At the same time, the discounter will expand its purchasing office in Hong Kong, where around 500 employees are already employed. Aldi is increasingly looking for alternatives to established importers in order to achieve lower purchase prices. "The cards are being reshuffled," says an insider.
