Turkey: BİM establishes a company to operate in the field of software and artificial intelligence

Discount Retail Chain BİM has decided to start the establishment process of a new company that will work in the fields of software development, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cyber security. Digital banking and payment services were also included in the company's scope of activity, provided that the necessary permits were obtained.

BİM Birleşik Mağazalar is going to a new company structuring for technology activities. According to the statement published on the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), in line with the decision of the board of directors dated October 13, 2026, procedures for the establishment of a company with a founding capital of 250 thousand TL will be initiated. BİM will be the sole founder and sole shareholder of the new company.

Software, Data Analytics and Financial Technology Under the Same Roof

The activities of the planned company include computer programming, software and technology development. Research, development, engineering and consultancy studies in the fields of artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cloud computing and cyber security are also included in the scope.

The supply and trade of technological products, including computers, peripherals, POS and ATM devices, as well as e-commerce and digital platform services, are among the planned business areas. Financial technology, digital banking and payment services will be subject to obtaining the necessary permits and authorizations in accordance with the relevant legislation.

BİM's Digitalization History Includes Mobile Applications and ERP

BİM's digitalization efforts extend from customer applications to operational systems. In the company's 2023 Integrated Annual Report, it is stated that the BİM Market application for the online sale of non-food products was launched in 2021. In the same report, it is stated that digital balance sending and contactless payment in stores are provided with BİM Para and FİLE Para applications.

On the corporate software side, according to the project information published by Skalla, BİM's SAP S/4HANA Retail transformation was carried out in cooperation with Vektora. The project used a "brownfield" approach, which is based on transforming the existing system and moving it to the new version.

In BİM's 2025 financial results presentation, cash registers where customers can make their own payments, electronic shelf labels, SAP EWM integration in warehouses and digitalization of supply chain management were listed among pilot projects and ongoing studies. This information shows that the company's technology agenda covers store, warehouse and supply chain processes as well as sales channels.

There are similar structures in the retail sector

There are also examples of retailers developing digital services through separate companies in Turkey. MoneyPay, a subsidiary of Migros, offers payment and electronic money services. Mimeda, on the other hand, operates in the retail media space, which brings together shopping data, communication channels and advertising technology. These examples reveal that payment and data services linked to retail activities can turn into separate business areas.

Another example on the financial services side is TOM Bank, which was founded by the shareholders of Aydın Group, which also includes A101. Transactions such as withdrawals and deposits can be made at A101 stores through the bank's Hadi application. The division of partnerships here is also important: TOM Bank is defined as an initiative of Aydın Group shareholders, not as a company directly established by A101.

The decision announced by BİM is still related to the establishment process of the new company. Keeping the scope of activity wide does not mean that services have started to be provided in all of these areas. The announced 250 thousand TL represents the founding capital of the company.

This news; BİM's PDP statement, annual report and investor presentation were prepared by making use of Skalla's project sharing and the corporate resources of Migros and TOM Bank.
