Discount Retail Chain Aldi Spain will focus on communities such as Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community.
Discounter Aldi continues with its ambitious expansion plan in Spain. In the next six months, the German company plans to open 20 new supermarkets in the domestic market, bringing the total number of its stores to more than 500 by the end of the 2025 financial year.
Specifically, this summer alone Aldi will raise the shutters on four new supermarkets located in Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community, which will mean the hiring of 280 workers for these stores. According to the company, before September it will exceed 480 establishments open in the Spanish market.
The openings are part of the company's annual growth plan, which includes about 40 openings and will accelerate before the end of the year. The figure follows in the wake of the last three years, in which the German chain has opened 127 stores in the country (42 stores in 2022, 48 in 2023 and 37 in 2024).
"We have developed a solid expansion plan in Spain in recent years, with the aim of bringing our purchasing model based on quality and low prices to a greater number of households," Aldi explained last January.
Focus on the whole country
In this growth process, communities such as Andalusia stand out. Aldi already had a hundred stores in the region at the end of 2024 and will once again strengthen its presence in the coming months, once again becoming one of the regions with the most openings in 2025. New supermarkets are scheduled to open between June and July in the Malaga municipality of Vélez-Málaga and in the province of Almeria.
In addition, Aldi has opened new stores in Galicia located in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) and Oleiros (A Coruña), while in the Community of Madrid it has opened supermarkets in Leganés, Las Rozas and the capital. In the Balearic Islands, Aldi has opened a new store in Palma de Mallorca, while in the Valencian Community it will open another in Alicante.
In total, the German chain has more than 100 stores in Andalusia and Catalonia, and has opened about 80 in the Valencian Community, closely followed by the Community of Madrid, with 70. In Murcia, the Basque Country, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands it is close to twenty.

Aldi's rapid expansion in Spain is astounding, particularly given plans to establish 20 additional stores by the end of 2025. Over 280 new positions have been created this summer alone, indicating significant economic activity. Reading such news encourages me to stay focused and do my dissertation on retail expansion techniques.
